Adult Sewing Classes Are Here!

We are excited to offer our new classes for adults! 

After completing our beginner program, students are welcome to join any of our 6 week classes.

Try one of our "Fix It, Mend It" workshops and learn how to sew a button, hem pants or skirts, fix a hole in a seam and patch a hole in kid's pants.

Programs And Workshops

Sewing Machine For Beginners

Join this beginner program where our knowledgeable, friendly instructors will guide you through the basics of the sewing machine. Create your own piece of "EZ Patchwork" fabric which you will use to make a drawstring bag, pincushion and needle case.

Week 1 - Sewing 101 - We will guide you through the very basics of the sewing machine and you will learn how to straight stitch, back stitch and zig-zag stitch. You will master corners and curves and you will hand stitch a button on to a simple felt pouch.

Weeks 2 and 3 - EZ Patchwork - You will learn about sewing fabric together, seam allowances, pinning and pressing seams open. You will create a beautiful piece of fabric ready to make in to your projects.

Weeks 4, 5 and 6 - Use your EZ Patchwork to make a pin cushion, needle case and drawstring bag.

Thursdays from 9.30am - 11.30am

Reversible Apron

The reversible apron will teach you about making two-sided items, how to sew curves and attach twill tape. You can get creative with extra designs on the apron and maybe incorporate other fabrics to make a one-of-a-kind project! We will also make a drawstring bag at this session.

Pajama Pants

This class is suitable for students who have completed a beginner sewing machine class and who want to learn how to shop for a pattern and fabric and how to use a pattern. We will teach you how to insert a simple zipper in the pouch project and you will learn about woven and non-woven fabrics and how to work with different fabrics. Don't be afraid, this is a fun easy class but your friends and family will be impressed with your projects!


Weeks 1 and 2 - Make a simple zippered pouched take measurements for pajama pants

Week 3 - Meet us at Joann Fabric Store in Scarsdale where we will show you how to select a pattern, fabric and notions for your pajama pants

Weeks 4, 5 and 6 - Learn how to use a simple pattern to make a pair of pajama pants. 

Materials and pattern not included.

"Fix It, Mend It" Workshops

This 3 hour workshop will teach basic hemming and mending and it will include:


1. Sewing on a button (shank and buttons with 2 or 4 holes)

2. Hemming pants using a blind hem stitch (by hand and using the sewing machine)

3. Hemming jeans using the "European" method which retains original hem

4. Sewing a hole in a seam (by hand and machine)

5. Patching a hole in kids clothing


We will provide materials for this workshop, please do not bring your stash of repairs, we will be working on samples and not actual items of clothing. We hope to provide you wit the skills so that you can repair your own items at home!

All levels welcome but people with no sewing machine experience will only use hand sewing techniques. If you would like to learn how to use a sewing machine first, join our adult sewing machine class or ask about a private lesson!
