Summer Sewing "Chill Out"

Monday

 

 

 

Schedule

9.45am BE READY

  • Be ready for start of camp

  • Enter Zoom meeting

  • Be wearing your headset and test the microphone

  • Have participants/campers on mute

  • Have samples ready to show during Meet 'n' Greet

  • Have materials ready for demonstration if needed

  • Have water close by

  • Have camper info in case you need to contact a parent by phone

10am MEET 'n' GREET

  1. Admit campers.

  2. Greet campers whilst waiting for everyone to join.

  3. Have campers start on the Welcome Activity - Art Phone "About Me"

  4. Introduce yourself and tell the campers a little bit about you including your sewing experience.

  5. Mute ALL campers then unmute each camper one at a time as you go around the "room" and ask everyone to say their name and an interesting fact you (the instructor) choose.

 

SUGGESTION: Have you ever sewed anything before?

10.20am GOALS

  • With campers muted:

    • Introduce camp projects

      • Show samples of each item​

      • Explain goals for the week

      • and goals for today

10.40am SEWING ACTIVITY

  • VIDEO "How To Thread A Needle"

  • Supplies needed: pincushion, needle threader, scissors, needle and thread

  • Campers: practice threading needle​​

Note: Experienced sewers can sew decorative stitches on the bookmark. Repeat campers can work on the extra activity in their box.

  • VIDEO "How To Tie A Knot"

  • Campers: practice tying a knot

11am 15 MINUTE BREAK (Use this time to help anyone catch up)

11.15am

  • VIDEO "Cutting Fabric"

  • Supplies needed: bookmark, scissors, 6" ruler

  • Campers: cut bookmark (practice piece)

  • VIDEO "Straight Stitch"

  • Introduce thimble and suggest that campers get used to wearing it

  • Campers: Use threaded and knotted needle to practise straight stitch

  • VIDEO "Lock Stitch"

  • Campers: practice lock stitch

12PM LUNCH BREAK

 

1pm ACTIVITY 

 

SOCK DONUT

  • Campers need to open bag labelled "Sock Donut"

  • VIDEO "Sock Donut"

  • Campers who finish early can color on coloring sheet

1.45pm 15 MINUTE BREAK (use this time to help anyone if needed)

 

2pm SEWING ACTIVITY - RETRO MUSIC PILLOW

  • Supplies needed: Pillow (front, back, strap, pockets, made-by label)

  • Campers: cut all pieces (ready for sewing tomorrow)

  • Campers who finish early should work on coloring sheet

 

2.35pm WIND DOWN

  • Clean up

  • Prepare for tomorrow

  • Show 'n' tell (Instructor should do today and plan what campers bring for show 'n' tell tomorrow)

  • Campers share "what I liked about camp today..."

3pm END OF DAY

  • End zoom meeting for all - do not leave open

  • Make sure you are prepared for tomorrow

      Goals for today

  • To learn how to thread a needle, tie a knot, straight stitch and lock stitch

  • To make a sock donut

  • To prepare fabric for tomorrow

      Goals for the week

  • To learn how to sew

  • To make a bookmark, pillow, bunting, and keychain

  • To have fun and to make new "virtual" friends

CAMPERS HAVE BEEN ASKED TO SUPPLY:

  • Markers or colored pencils for coloring

  • Sharpies

  • Fabric Markers (optional)
