The machine we currently use at our studio has been discontinued but this is the replacement and the one we recommend for kids and adults. We love the speed control and embroidery stitches!
We use these for marking fabric, they are heat erasable, a great addition to any sewing kit!
Gingher or Fiskars are great brands. Keep these scissors for cutting fabric only as cutting paper will dull them!
Pins are essential for any sewer. These are long but some shorter ones would be good to have also.
These traditional tomato pincushions are a must-have.
An alternative to the tomato pincushion.
Great for keeping sewing supplies together. An "Art Bin" also works well. or any other box with a lid.
Assorted hand sewing needles are good because different tasks require different sized needles.
Keeps bobbins neat and tidy.
Sewing machines come with a mini seam ripper but a larger one is better for unpicking stitches!
Always buy good quality threads like Coats & Clark or Guttermann. We like these Coats & Clark Dual Duty threads.
Helpful for threading needles!
Handy for drawing lines on fabric, we use these a lot in the studio.
Easy for beginners, no fraying and kids can make lots of projects with a pack of felt! These are 8" x 12" but there are other sizes too, just make sure it's the soft felt , not the stiff variety.
These are permanent and good for embellishing projects.
An essential for students interested in fashion design and making garments.
A good mix of buttons is good to have and they will always come in handy for both practical and decorative purposes.
These "fat quarters" are 18" x 21", a perfect size for beginner projects. We love this brand but there are many to choose from.
This mannequin is child size but they are also available in adult sizes. Make sure to purchase a pinnable mannequin in order to pin fabric in place.
There are plenty of books with sewing ideas and this is a good one to start with.
For kids 8-12 this book will inspire them to create their own adorable softies! We love this book!
