Summer Sewing "Selfie Time"

Schedule

8.45am BE READY

​

  • Be ready for start of camp

  • Enter Zoom meeting

  • Be wearing your headset and test the microphone

  • Have participants/campers on mute

  • Have samples ready to show during Meet 'n' Greet

  • Have materials ready for demonstration if needed

  • Have water close by

  • Have camper info in case you need to contact a parent by phone

9am MEET 'n' GREET

​

  1. Admit campers.

  2. Greet campers whilst waiting for everyone to join.

  3. Have campers start on the Welcome Activity - "All About Me" NOTE: Repeat campers (Nava and Jordyn have the Art Phone activity in addition to the camera activity as they did it last week)

  4. Introduce yourself and tell the campers a little bit about you including your sewing experience.

  5. This is the time we would like the campers to interact so keep them UNMUTED and ask them to say their name and an interesting fact you (the instructor) choose.

SEWING ACTIVITY

​

Ask campers to get out bag labelled "Selfie Time Bookmark"

Supplies needed: pincushion, needle threader, scissors, needle and thread, bag labelled "Bookmark"

​

  • Campers: practice threading needle​​

​

Note: Experienced sewers can sew decorative stitches on the bookmark. For repeat campers who have already gone through the sewing basics they have an extra activity in their supplies box, 

This week - "Nava has the Emoji's to work on during the basic sewing instructions" 

Jordyn and can work at her own pace on the Selfie Time bookmark

  • Campers: practice tying a knot

  • Supplies needed: bookmark, scissors, 6" ruler

  • Campers: cut bookmark (practice piece)

10.45am 15 MINUTE BREAK (Use this time to help anyone catch up)

  • VIDEO "Straight Stitch"

​

  • Introduce thimble and suggest that campers get used to wearing it

  • Campers: Use threaded and knotted needle to practise straight stitch

​

  • VIDEO "Lock Stitch"

  • Campers: practice lock stitch

  • Campers: work on bookmark

BEFORE LUNCH BREAK DO A MINI END OF DAY WITH MORNING CAMPERS. ASK THEM TO CUT TOTE BAG STRAPS FOR TOMORROW (OR THEY CAN DO IT IN THE MORNING)

ASK FULL DAY CAMPERS TO BRING TAPE TO THE AFTERNOON SESSION

PHOTO BOOTH PROPS​

  • Campers need to open bag labelled "Photo Booth Props"

  • VIDEO "Photo Booth Props"

​

  • Campers who finish early can color on coloring sheet or work on bookmark some more

1.55pm - 2.15pm (20 Minutes) CUT TOTE BAG

​

  • Supplies needed: Bag labelled "Selfie Tote Bag"

​

  • Campers: cut all pieces (ready for sewing tomorrow)

  • Bag Front and Back, Pocket, Pocket Flap

  • Leave Keychain In A Safe Place

​

​

  • Campers who finish early should work on coloring sheet

​

2.15pm WIND DOWN

​

  • Clean up

  • Prepare for tomorrow

  • Show 'n' tell (Instructor should do today and plan what campers bring for show 'n' tell tomorrow)

  • Campers share "what I liked about camp today..."

​

2.30pm END OF DAY

​

  • End zoom meeting for all - do not leave open

  • Make sure you are prepared for tomorrow

  • To prepare fabric for tomorrow*
